Is Basecamp the best solution for Project Management?

Often I read people talking about Basecamp and it seems to be the most popular project management tool. But is it the best tool available? What are the alternatives and their differences to Basecamp?

We're launching a much more integrated and interconnected way to manage projects, communicacions and contacts that might be worth a try.

bCommunities is not only an online tool but a platform for collaboration between organizations. Instead of managing all your internal and external contacts, you only manage your team and your external contacts manage theirs. Then, when you want to work together, you send each other tasks that can be in hierarchies (not in most other tools) and can be setup to function with workflow automation.

The alternative is to invite others into your own environment and then have them fending for themselves with your shared data and files only available in your online silo, not their internal system... not nice at all. Or, a tool like Huddle would force you to create a simple workspace where everyone sees everyone else in the project... not nice either.

bCommunities functions more like normal b2b collaboration works in real life. It also gives you multiple roles within your organization caus eyou don't want everyone to see everything and your team members don't need to be bothered with too much irrelevant data. But your administrators sure would like to be able to see what's going with their project tasks, conversations etc...

There are a lot of options out there for project management today. Basecamp is one proven tool. I've used it, and if you're working in a large organization and can afford it, it's a great tool.

Now I'm an entrepreneur and working in a smaller team, so I use Fellowstream. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of Basecamp, but it's got everything I need to keep myself organized and my remote team on track.

Whatever you decide, you should try out a few free trials of the options out there and pick a tool that's best for you.

When thinking about project managment, the main reason basecamp has been so successful is largely because of their excellent following and early entry into the market.

Now that the web 1.0 solutions have been around for a while, it's time for new more collaborative and critically integrated solutions! Your typical small business or team, is now using multiple solutions and softwares to be able to collaborate effectively. Creating a seamless experience that allows you to manage your email in Google, your files in dropbox, and check tasks on your phone, and elsewhere is all part of that new way of working.

At http://siasto.com we are building exactly that, a tool that will allow you to manage projects, tasks, files, and documents within your organization in all the different places you work already.

Good PM software will be in future be complementary, and not additive and require a new way of working.

Check out http://siasto.com to take a look at team work software designed for the way you work.

Those, who'd like to have options for PM and collaboration, online doc editor, CRM sys, calendar in one central place for no cost and with a deployment choice, can undoubtedly set their minds on TeamLab.com. Though it's young, it's already well-reputed.
Basecamphq.com has a huge number of followers as it's been at the market for much longer time. It provides you with a choice to use all their tools separately or in an integrated pack with quite flexible pricing plans. Aiming at simplicity, though, some tools, for example, concerning task management, have fewer options than TeamLab.
