We need to improve the way our agents are following up with customers (travel agency). I have heard that ERP software could help, but after doing some research, it seems like ERP is just too big for our small company. What do you think? Do you use ERP for your small business? If not, what other types of software are available for someone in our position?

Dangerous to advise based on limited information....Is it purely customer interactions that you want to track/plan? Or do you have other needs? Financials for instance? Payroll?

If it's specifically customer interactions, management, and tracking you're looking into, CRM would be more suitable for your needs. Other features that you may want to keep a look out for that's included in your CRM solution would be products/services management, quotes management, and invoicing. If your travel agency has an online presence to generate leads, you may want your CRM solution to be integrated with your website as well. Also, be sure the check with your CRM vendor whether their CRM solution could handle various types of pricing in different currencies for your seasonal travel packages.Hope this helps. Cheers!

Sounds more like you need a lead aggregation CRM tool. I recommend you take a look at LeadMasterCRM’s lead centric design excels at acquisition, distribution and tracking anddata mining of multiple lead capture sources including 3rd partyproviders. It is an Ideal application for agency, multi-tiered sales, salesnetworks and call centers. For web generated leads, their new LeadCaster module is exceptionally smart at acquiringthe lead and adding it to the database.
AIM CRM might be another option for you. It has powerful leadfiltering capabilities to manipulate incoming data streams, integrated billingand payment processing systems and email marketing tools.
If you think you really need a CRM/ERP program, WORKetcand SalesBoom are excellent options for small business ERP applications and arevery affordable.
Please let me know if you need any further info on theseCRM options.

Agree with previous posts that a CRM may be a better option to manage the customers, follow-ups, etc. Another to check out and compare is MS CRM Online – there is an unadvertised pricing promotion and no user minimum until December 23rd, 2010. Sign up for the 30-day trial and a MS CRM rep will call you to tell you more.
